Windows 10 is the most popular and most advanced operating system developed by Microsoft. Around the world, there are too many people who are right now using this operating system on their personal computes.
But the old fact is very much true that nothing is perfect no matter how much good the thing is. And that fact is also true in the case of Windows 10. Though the operating system is the perfect one f you are viewing through the eye of a regular user.
But there are some irritating and annoying things about Windows 10 that is bothering everyone. And that is what this topic is all about.
I think everyone knows about the Windows 10 operating system by Microsoft. So we should not waste any more time on giving any brief introduction of Windows 10 and just jump into the section where we will discuss bout the 7 most irritating windows 10 features and how you can solve them.
5 Most Irritating Features of Windows 10 and How to Solve them
Just like I have said before that nothing is perfect in this world and Windows 10 is also no exception. The users of this operating system have observed some really irritating and annoying features that is contained in Windows 10.
Now I understand your situation, that is why today I took the privilege to give some quick fixes to those annoying problems. So that you get smooth and interruption-free working experience.
1. Stop Auto Reboots
Most of the complaints about Windows 10 came in respect with its feature of Auto Reboots. Every day Windows 10 take some updates and these updates are never-ending. Over the course of time, the rate of updates has increased and now it is pretty much out of the hands of the user.
Now the worse part of auto-updates is that you have reboot your personal computer after each and every update. And if you don’t do so then the system will automatically initialize a reboot and will install the update on your system.
To avoid this continuous rebooting feature you can do is to turn off the auto-update option. In the settings of the operating system, you will find an option to turn off the Auto Update option. But if you do this then always remember that frequently you have to keep a check on any new updates manually.
Or you can do one more thing that is, in the setting section you will find a feature called Active Hours. From this feature, you can schedule your reboots and can avoid the problem of Automatic Updates and Reboots.
2. Prevent Sticky Keys
The feature of Sticky keys on Windows 10 appears on your screen when you press the shift key 5 times on your keyboard. This windows feature allows you to access a keyboard shortcut.
To activate this feature you need to choose the OK option on the dialogue box that appears on your screen when you press the shift key five times on your keyboard.
But the problem is that this feature is very annoying in nature and can irritate you while you are working on your system.
The solution is very simple. You can straight away disable this feature of Windows 10.
- Hit the shift key five times rapidly on your keyboard.
- Now you will see a dialogue box appearing on your system screen
- Click on the option saying ”Disable this keyboard shortcut in Ease of Access Keyboard settings”.
- Uncheck the box.
After this process now you have successfully disabled the Sticky Key feature of Windows 10.
3. Calm down the UAC
UAC or User Account Control is there in Windows since its Vista version. So it is very common that this feature is also included in the Windows 10 version too.
Microsoft developed the User Account Control to protect users so that they can easily grant ant administrative rights while installing any software.
I think you have faced the situation when you try to install software and the screen goes dim and after some time a dialogue box appears on your screen in which you have selected the Allow option.
This is the UAC feature. And it is also included the Windows 10 version. But the good news is you can easily disable this feature from your Windows 10 operating system.
To remove this feature from Windows 10-
Open the search box and search for the Change User Account Control Settings.
You will be presented with a list of options
Pick one option from the middle of the list.
The second last option notifies you without the dimming tactic.
By choosing that option you the dimming feature will get disabled but you will still get the dialog box confirmation whenever you try to install new software.
4. Delete all the unused applications
Windows 10 comes with a list of pre-installed application which never uses. Have you ever heard there is a music application on Windows 10 called Groove Music? With the Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft included this default music app.
But the thing is that nobody uses it. You will also go for third-party software to play your favorites on the system. So there is no point in keeping these applications which you will never even open.
The good news is that now you can delete these pre-installed from your operating system. So to do that you need to follow the below steps-
Go to Settings
Then find the option called Apps and Features
From this section, you will find the list of the apps installed on your computer and you can easily delete the unused apps
But in some cases, the uninstall option is greyed out which means you are not authorized to customize any changes. In this case, you go to the DOS route. Going in this path is a little bit complex and you should always know what you are doing.
So to go the DOS way to uninstall the unused you need to follow the below steps-
Open the Windows search box and type PowerShell.
When you find PowerShell right-click on it and run it as an administrator.
In PowerShell type “Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers” (without quotes). A huge list of installed application will appear on your screen
Take your time and select the applications you want to delete from that list.
Then write a command line with respect to the selected application.
Execute that command line and tap on the return key. Now if you do not get any errors while compilation then you will see that specific application is removed from your computer.
5. Hide or Disable Cortana
Cortana is the voice assistant by Microsoft. With the release, Microsoft first release their voice assistant called Cortana with the new Windows 10 operating system. In the operating system, Cortana is placed on the start bar just beside the Windows logo.
But unlike Siri or Alexa, Cortana searches everything when a command is given. But at some point of using the user might realize that Cortana is really not that important and not that useful. So in order to hide or disable Cortana from your computer, you need to follow the below steps.
There is two options, either you hide Cortana or disable it completely from your operating system. So to hide Cortana all you need to do is just right click on the taskbar and select Cortana.
There you will find the option to hide Cortana. This means the search bar of Cortana is hidden from the Taskbar but it is running in the background and can be accessible at the point of time.
Now as per to completely disable Cortana from your computer you need to follow some steps like-
Open Registry Editor
In that registry type Regedit and then hit the enter button.
Now in the windows 10 home go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search.
If you see that it is not there then you have to create it first.
Right, Click on it to create a DWORD value and call it AllowCortana.
Set the value to 0.
Now once you return back then you will see that the search bar of Cortana is replaced by the “Search Windows” option.
So Finally
In the end, all I can say if you are feeling irritated by the features of Windows 10 then follow the above steps and just remove every feature you are not liking.
Each and every solution I have listed above are very much applicable and if you try it then you will get relieved from these annoying apps.
